In 1953, a spitfire was born prematurely, fighting to gain traction in his new world. That
spirit would manifest throughout his 71 years as he endeavored to find his place and purpose.
Incredibly smart, creative, strong willed, with a firm sense of self that was
off-putting to some but embraced by those who hung on for the ride. Wally worked
hard to make his mark and poured positive energy into every task he undertook,
whether it was rebuilding a vintage Mercedes or leading the Phoenix downtown
urban renewal project.
He gained a fair amount of grace when a stroke laid him low seven years ago; where
physical dexterity failed, a garden of compassion, humility, and gratitude grew. Life
from a wheelchair looked very different, but he made the transition with determination
and dignity, using his quirky sense of humor to ease the path for all involved.
Forever in our hearts, Wally leaves his partner of 27 years, Cynthia ‘Sid’ Stevens,
family Wendy Baker, Matlyn, & Shaun Leetch, Betsy Sharp, and four kitties that were
the center of his universe.
At his request, there will be no service.
